Frequently Asked Questions
What changes are there in Kela reimbursements for those over 65?
Starting in September 2025, the freedom of choice trial will give people over 65 the opportunity to book an appointment with a private general practitioner by paying only the public primary healthcare client fee. With us, you can get services even more affordably. In addition, the doctor can prescribe tests, of which Kela will reimburse 50 %. The Kela 65 trial will continue until 31 December 2027.
With us, a doctor’s chat appointment costs only 27 €, you can use the service every day, and it does not use up the number of visits in the freedom of choice trial.
How many doctor visits can I use during the trial?
In 2025, you can use up to two visits. In 2026 and 2027, the number increases to three visits per year. The visits can be in-person, video, or phone consultations.
Which tests does Kela reimburse during the trial?
Kela reimburses 50 % of certain tests, such as laboratory tests and imaging studies, if they are prescribed by a doctor. Maximum prices are set for the tests to ensure that patients do not incur unexpected additional costs.
Can I choose my own doctor?
Yes. You can choose a doctor from the private service providers participating in the trial. This allows you to see the same familiar doctor throughout the trial, supporting continuity of care.
How can I keep track of the number of visits I’ve used?
You can check through OmaKela how many visits you have used and how many remain for the current year.
Doctor’s chat appointments do not consume free trial amounts, they can be used once a day for only 27 euros.
How do I book an appointment?
Booking an appointment is easy directly through our service – via chat, video, or phone. Thanks to our service model, you can see the same familiar doctor throughout the trial, supporting continuity of care. Doctors and service providers participating in the freedom-of-choice trial can be found on Kela’s website, and we ensure that the doctor you choose is part of the trial.

Is occupational healthcare mandatory?
Yes. Employers are legally required to provide preventive occupational healthcare for all employees. This is not just an obligation but also a way to reduce sick leave and improve employee well-being – ultimately saving the company costs in the long term.
What is the difference between statutory and voluntary occupational healthcare?
Statutory occupational healthcare covers preventive services, such as workplace assessments, health check-ups, and monitoring of work ability.
Voluntarily, an employer can include medical care. This speeds up employees’ access to treatment, reduces sick leave, and supports work ability more effectively.
Who pays for occupational healthcare?
The employer covers the costs, but Kela reimburses up to 60% of properly organized occupational healthcare. In practice, this means that high-quality occupational healthcare can be provided at a significantly lower cost to the company.
What kind of companies are Finland Occupational Health packages suitable for?
Our services are suitable for companies of all sizes – both small and large – that value cost-efficiency and digital solutions. Our solution adapts to the needs of different industries: office work, manufacturing, construction, care services, and other physically or mentally demanding work environments. There is a scalable, customizable model for every company.
Is there a startup fee for the service?
Yes. The startup fee 389 € per company includes a workplace assessment and an action plan. This ensures a legally compliant and smooth start to the collaboration. Kela also reimburses part of the startup fee (up to 60 %), so the actual cost to the company remains low.
Does the contract have a minimum billing or notice period?
Yes. For small companies, the minimum billing covers two employees. The price is reviewed annually based on service usage. The contract is flexible, with a notice period of only three months – ensuring that our service genuinely meets your needs.
Can I change the occupational healthcare service provider?
Yes. Employers always have the right to put occupational healthcare services out to tender and change the service provider.
Switching to us is made easy – we manage the transition process and ensure that employees’ care continues uninterrupted at all times.
How does occupational healthcare support work ability and reduce sick leave?
Occupational healthcare helps identify risks early, supports employees in a timely manner, and thereby reduces the risk of prolonged sick leave. At Finland Occupational Health, we always assess remaining work ability and provide employers with concrete suggestions for work arrangements. Each company has an assigned occupational health doctor, and employees have a personal doctor who knows their situation – these speeds up care and supports work ability more effectively than the traditional model.
What does an assessment of remaining work ability mean?
An assessment of remaining work ability means that we do not focus solely on the need for sick leave but examine what an employee can still do despite their health condition.
At Finland Occupational Health, we evaluate both acute and chronic illnesses from the perspective of remaining work ability. Our goal is to identify and enable tasks that the person can continue to perform within their health limits during illness – for example, through job modifications or alternative duties.
This supports both the employee’s well-being and the company’s productivity: the employee remains active in the workforce, and the employer avoids unnecessary prolonged absences.
Can a company’s employees use the consumer-oriented medical service if the company has chosen the statutory level of occupational healthcare?
Yes. Employees can consult with a doctor, for example via the chat service, at their own expense with SV reimbursement. This way, the cost of the medical service remains significantly below the public sector fee level.
